Overview
Uuno is forced to complete his mandatory military service when it is revealed that he only spent one day in the army in his youth. As is typical of the Turhapuro series his family and friends become closely tied in with these events. His friends Härski Hartikainen and Sörsselssön return to the army for a refresher course and by chance Uuno's father-in-law, Councillor Tuura is made the Finnish Defence Minister. In one of the most memorable scenes, Uuno's wife, Elisabeth, dresses as Uuno and substitutes him for a day as Uuno has an apparently urgent meeting (at a restaurant) and while becoming lost in the woods with a malfunctioning radio, Tuura accidentally declares war on Sweden.

Uuno Turhapuro, the character we love to hate goes to army this time.That means nobody is in safe.Uuno Turhapuro armeijan leivissä (1984) has done the best at the box-office of all the Uuno movies.Ere Kokkonen is the director and writer.Spede Pasanen is the producer and portraying Härski Hartikainen, naturally.Also he and his buddy, Sörsselsson, played by Simo Salminen, are seen in the army.Vesa-Matti Loiri portrays Uuno himself, naturally, and he does it very comically, as he always did.The legendary Tapio Hämäläinen is once again Vuorineuvos Tuura and Marita Nordberg is his wife.Their daughter and Uuno's wife, Elisabeth Turhapuro is wonderfully portrayed by Marjatta Raita.This beloved actress sadly passed away last week at too young of age.Here we can still see her doing her most known role.And in this one she's also pretty comical, when you see her replacing Uuno at the army.Spede actually told her not to be funny, but she could be also that.Her husband Aarno Sulkanen also acts in the movie.Helge Herala, who was usually Uuno's teacher is now Kenraali.Mr. Herala turned 85 yesterday (congratulations!).It was really heartwarming watch him share his memories in the show "Viihteen 50" on Saturday.So the years pass...Elli Castren is there doing her Unelma Säleikkö character.Hannele Lauri is there playing tennis with Uuno.Eini visits there singing her hit "Kesä ja yö".Also the singer Riki Sorsa is there, not singing though.Ensio Itkonen visits there playing himself.Ismo Kallio does his impression of President Mauno Koivisto.Jyrki Kovaleff is the angry Kapteeni.The younger Mikko Kivinen is there.The late great Ville-Veikko Salminen plays the butler.Other actors to mention are Kalle Holmberg, Juhani Kumpulainen, Jukka Sipilä, Riitta Väisänen and Ulla Tapaninen.There are many funny moments in this movie, like when Uuno, Härski and Sörsselssön have a piece of entertainment.There's a burst of nostalgia when you watch these Uuno movies.Watch Uuno Turhapuro armeijan leivissä and laugh.For the old times sake!

Heli Valkonen is desperately in love with her husband. But Matti is just not in the mood. He is only interested in playing computer games, dressed in worn out fleece pants. For him, a shoulder massage is the highest form of intimacy. When subtle hints, nice words and fetching clothes won't help, Heli resorts in direct, and increasingly direct action - in vain.

Very typical Finnish movie. I have never quite understand why there have to be nudity in every finnish movie. It's like its compulsion rather than a necessary to the plot.

There is a same thing with the plot. Nothing surprising there either. "Normal" married couple going through hard times and husband isn't very willing to have sex. Solution: go have sex with somebody else and then you realize how much you love your spouse. Boring and everybody have heard and seen this 100 times before.

Well, acting is pretty good thank god. Especially Virtanen Ville is pretty good as a sad and little weird husband. Sinisalo Anu is OK too and seems to enjoy her role pretty much.

Elvi ja Rauha-aunt gets an brilliant idea: they need to find a Man, that is suitable father figure for Risto. Risto does not like this idea at all, neither does the neighbour Lennart who happens to have a thing for Rauha. In order help Risto to get off this ordeal Lennart tries to create a perfect Man that might fulfill Rauha's constantly changing ideas what a perfect Man is suppose to be.

I had low expectations with this movie, but it was still quite disappointing. I have not read the book the story is based on, but it has to be better than this.

The movie totally lacks good spirit and for the viewer it's difficult to decide which genre this movie is trying to be. There's some awkward comedy where you should be laughing to an elder, then there's some over the top drama and also little hint of trying to be an art-retro-type of movie.

Movie might give you few good laughs if you leave your brains to sleep. However it lacks a lot of deepness and what made me dislike this movie the most is that the scenes are too separate to carry on a whole full feature film. Also it made the crowd feel sad that the daughter-in- law and son were so rude to 80-year old main character. There were too many scenes where daughter-in-law is angry with the old man because of his old believes and in one scene his son decides to crash his old loved car to a tree for some really selfish reason, but the story is told to the viewer as these people acted properly towards the old main character.

I don't usually enjoy movies that lack clear morals without any believable explanation. However the main problem with Mielensäpahoittaja is the lack of structure and badly executed plot.

I had quite the expectations about this movie, but at the same time I felt that it was going to be a rushed experience. I had to remember that I was going to see a kids' movie.

The plot for the movie felt simplistic, but I reckon it was for purpose. Artstyle was amazing, creating atmospheres with colors only few animations can stand up against. The new characters felt a bit alien, but as the movie went on they integrated to the movie pretty well.

As what comes to the entire film, it's certainly something you want to show to your children, but it doesn't really offer anything else. I have the idea that the Japanese anime-version offered anything to everyone. This movie doesn't get that similar feel right. It's still fun to look at and some scenes are quite thrilling.

Picard gave his best at bringing in the Moomin glory to white-screen and the results are satisfactory...for the children, that is.
